Nkhoma Mission Hospital Surgical Project

Nkhoma Hospital has been providing quality care to the people of Malawi for over 100 years. It currently has over 200 beds but only 2 OR rooms. The capacity for surgical cases is limited by the lack of modern surgical facilities. In partnership with African Mission Healthcare, Samaritans Purse, MBF, PAACS and others the new surgical facility will provide a much-needed upgrade and increased capacity to the hospital.

More details to come...

The north side of the jobsite where the main entrance to the jobsite will be. The project will have to be completed with minimal disruption to the hospital and its daily services. The site sits between two buildings, maternity to the west and "Peanut Butter and Jesus" the food paste processing building that makes food paste for the infants at the hospital.

The west side of the jobsite where adjacent to the maternity ward. The building shown in white is the AIDS clinic that will be related. The restrooms and supporting plumbing lines will also need to be relocated. There will be a good bit of work that needs to take place on site prior to the start of the actual building project.

This view is from the south side where you can see the fall in elevation across the entire site. There is a 5meter elevation change from the north to the southside of the jobsite. There are multiple sanitary and storm water lines that will need to be diverted and rerouted before we start the foundation work.

The soil conditions are excellent as the majority of the site is rock and mixed gravel. Due to the topography of the site the building will have a large walk out ground floor where the training center will be located. The main floor where the ORs and wards will be start on the north side and stay as the site falls to the south thus allowing for the ground floor to reside underneath.
