Only God could have orchestrated the way the Nkhoma project has come together. What if I told you a friend, of a friend in my BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) group, who knows a guy; would have led to us moving our family 8,000 miles away to Malawi. You would have responded in disbelief, and many of you do when I tell you the story. But God didn’t; He orchestrated it.
While working on the Pothawira surgical project in 2023, I was also attending BSF on Monday nights. My small group was primarily other professionals. During the fall semester, I asked for prayer because I was traveling to Malawi for a design meeting and to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at Pothawira. One of my fellow small group members, Dr. Barry Inabnet, came up to me and said that he had worked in Malawi at Nkhoma Mission Hospital earlier that year and was interested in the work we were doing. He noted that was working with PAACS and The University of Kentucky to start a partnership with the hospital. Later that year, before BSF took a break for the summer, I once again shared with the group about the progress of the project and successful completing of the walls and roof assembly. Barry was super excited to hear about the progress and wanted to connect me with his friend who was working at Nkhoma. He was taken back with the progress on the project in such a short time. His friend (Dr. Jens Vaylann) was also working on a construction project but was having difficulty get the project moving forward. He suggested we meet.

Later that year, in the fall of 2024 I traveled back to Malawi and made time to meet with Dr. Jens at Nkhoma. During that visit I was able to meet the hospital administration team and hear about the project. They shared that they had had numerous teams come and do studies evaluations and even recommend designs. However, their current design was receiving bids from contractors’ way over their budget. I took their plans evaluated, suggested some adjustment be made, simplified the program, realigned the structural design and helped to reimagine the project to a more feasible and realistic project.
In early 2025 Dr. Inabnet asked me to travel with him and a few other doctors from The University of Kentucky back to Nkhoma. It was then God really mad it clear to us that God wanted us to see this project through. He led us down the path, we kept saying Yes to God. He kept providing open doors, we kept walking through them. Now we depart Aug 2025 for a 2year project to oversee the design and construction of a new surgical and training facility.
I expect this project to be difficult, I expect it to challenge and push me, I expect to fail, but I have God on my side. In our failures God that is where God meet us, refines us and brings us into new light. The safest place to be is in the will of our Father in heaven. It is there we are invincible.
